Is Michael Kors Still Cool?

Michael Kors still cool

I have to admit, I haven’t been reaching for my Michael Kors bags as much as I used to. I remember the day when the brand felt exclusive, now it just seems to be overexposed. Everyone and their mother has one and it’s lost it level of luxury somewhere along the way. Much like Coach purses, everyone is walking around with the same bag and it’s no longer unique. Too many celebrities, street-style influencers and fashion lovers have hyped-up the brand and it’s now somewhat annoying. When a luxury brand is found everywhere, it begins to feel ordinary.

The outlets have not helped the matter. Having an item in an outlet is an instant way to kill its high-end status. I know it’s tough for me to pay a premium on a bag, when I know in a few months it will be on sale. If I can save upwards of 60% off a bag next season, why would I pay full price? Don’t get me wrong, I love a good discount, but when I’m dropping hundreds (or even thousands) on a bag, I don’t want it to lose value within the first few months.

So, I want to know, is Michael Kors still cool? I still have a few handbags in my collection that I still love and will continue to reach for, but I don’t think I’ll be purchasing a new one in the future.

I used to enjoy this brand as well, along with Coach. When both brands decided to “dumb down” their brand by making products specifically for the outlet to feed the masses the game changed for me. These cheaper versions became a version of a “knock off” in my opinion. The desire to feed the obsession felt by the masses became more important than protecting the integrity of the brand. I see the same thing happening at Kate Spade outlets. Bags made exclusively for the outlet, compromising quality for quantity.

I no longer own any MK or a Coach purses, I’ve given them all away. No longer do I appreciate what he has to offer simply because it’s been overdone. These days I reach for my classic LVs, Gucci, Prada, Longchamp, Minkoff and when I’m feeling more casual Dooney Burke. Qhen I’m carrying one of these I still get that awesome feeling I got the very first time I used it. I lost that lovin’ feelin’ for MK many years ago!

Amber, I totally agree with you! I remember years ago when I bought my Micheal Kors bag, and now I wouldn’t even bother buying one since I would rather spend the money on a designer that isn’t everywhere. With that being said though, I would still invest in his shoes and jewelry, at that point, I’m just investing in quality pieces (not that his bags aren’t quality, but these other items aren’t seen as much). It’s the same thing with Coach. I like to think of them as stepping stones into the world of designer handbags, but having a collection of much higher-end purses now, I don’t think I would go back to MK. I can still do Kate Spade to a degree but I’m over MK and Coach.
