I’m starting 2016 off by introducing you to a Korean skincare brand that I’ve fallen in love with this past month. Although I’ve only tested out two products from this iconic and world famous brand, I’m excited to add more products to my daily lineup. I’ve been playing with a revolutionary cushion foundation that not only helps to provide long-lasting, full coverage, it features added skin care benefits that help to hydrate the skin. I’ve also been using a moisturizing serum that features active minerals that penetrate deep into the skin for instant hydration. For someone who suffers from extremely dry skin, especially in the cold, dry winter months, these two products go hand in hand in keeping my skin healthy, moisturized and flawless.
Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion is a fresh, lightweight cushion foundation that features a proprietary herbal blend of unique ingredients that instantly help to hydrate and diminish the signs of aging, while protecting against the harmful rays of the sun. It contains Apricot Kernel Oil that helps promote collagen, improving skin’s elasticity, Jaumdan Water that helps to optimize hydration for a lifting effect, Flexible Film Fixing Polymers that offer a protective barrier for 12 hour coverage and finally SPF 50 that protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays. This innovated formula helps to not only refresh and soothe the skin, its two flattering skin tone shades give a matte and flawless finish to the skin.
Although the Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion only comes in 2 shades, it is designed to complement a wide variety of skin tones, and helps take the guess work out of finding your perfect shade. It comes in a round, almost greyish white compact with silver, mirrored detailing with a liquid-dispensing cushion foundation within. Upon initial opening, you’ll immediately see a puff applicator and a full-size mirror on the inside lid. You will then have to open up the second compartment where you’ll see the actual foundation. Remove the protective film layer before first use and remember to tightly close the container after each use. The double compact will help ensure the foundation stays liquidy and germ free for months to come.
Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion has a rich and creamy, almost velvety smooth texture that provides a sheer, almost dewy coverage. Its lightweight texture is fairly buildable, up to about a medium coverage with a little layering, but don’t expect full coverage with this foundation. After buffed into the skin and allowed to set and dry for a few minutes, you’re left with a completely flawless, almost air-brushed effect that looks incredibly natural. It’s comfortable to wear on the skin for the entire day, almost as if you’re wearing no foundation at all and it doesn’t seem to oxidize or fade for a solid 12+ hours.
Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion is easy to use, simply press the sponge into the cushion to lightly release the liquid foundation found within and then gently tap the sponge or your own brush with the foundation onto your skin. You can build up the coverage and buff out any extra foundation to your desired look without the fear of it becoming thick, caky or heavy looking. Although it claims to have a matte finish, I’d say it sets to more of a satin matte with a luminous glow, without looking greasy or shiny. If you set it with a powder foundation or setting powder, I can see it turning into a matte finish. For someone who has dry skin and wants to take full advantage of the dewy finish, you don’t have to worry about it separating or breaking apart the entire day. Looking for a soft and flawless foundation that isn’t drying, you’re going to love this. Added bonus, each compact comes with a full size refill.
Sulwhasoo Hydro-Aid Moisturizing Lifting Serum features active mineral ingredients that penetrate deep into the skin for instant hydration and a more youthful complexion. It contains holistic Korean skincare ingredients and benefits such as herbal seaweed that’s rich in calcium and minerals to help hydrate the deepest layer of the skin, while improving skin’s moisture retention. It’s also formulated with hydro-aid capsules that help to soothe the skin, promote circulation and relieve puffiness.
Sulwhasoo Hydro-Aid Moisturizing Lifting Serum comes in a pale baby blue, pump-style packaging that’s not only easy to use and control, keeps the product within clean and hygienic. It has an incredibly lightweight texture that although starts off as a soft, smooth and velvety texture, it quickly melts down once warmed up and in contact with your skin. It glides onto the skin like butter, blends into the skin beautifully and absorbs into the skin fairly quickly. It provides all day and night hydration and moisturization without a greasy, oily or sticky residue.
As much as I love the Sulwhasoo Hydro-Aid Moisturizing Lifting Serum benefits, I’m actually more in love with the scent. Its ginseng, herbal scent is not only soothing and calming, I find it quite therapeutic and relaxing. I look forward to applying it nightly, which by the way, only requires a single pump to cover my entire face and neck. It massages into the skin effortlessly and is extremely effective after the very first use. My incredibly dry skin is looking soft, smooth and incredibly hydrated. It does take a few minutes to fully absorb into the skin and leaves behind a slight sheen on your skin, but since it leaves it sufficiently hydrated, I can deal with that. Is this a miracle worker, absolutely not, but if you suffer from dry, irritated, itchy skin like I do, this will be a great addition to your current skin care routine.
