Can you believe that one of my all-time fave makeup brands, Too Faced, has been around for 20 years? In celebration of their 20th anniversary, the brand has released an extra-special, and super-deluxe collection. Each product is inspired by the decade in which the brand was first created, along with fun and modern-day shades of the current year. Jerrod Blandino is no stranger when it comes to shimmer and glitter, he’s been working it into the brand since 1998. So expect to see lots of glitz and glamour in this Cheers to 20 Years Collection. The brand has released a limited edition Better Than Birthday Sex Mascara, a 20-pan eyeshadow palette and 10 colour coordinating lipsticks.

The Too Faced Then & Now Palette not only consists of 10 of the brand’s best-love and highly favorable shades of the 90’s, but it also features 10 newly revamped and updated shades of 2018. It comes in the largest palette I’ve seen to-date, in my fave millennial pink and with a ton of glitter. As an added bonus, it even smells like Birthday cake… then again, would you expect anything less from the brand? Too Faced is known for their fabulous scented shadows, and this one is no exception. Within the palette, you’ll not only find neutrals, browns and golds, but you’ll see a ton of fun pops of colour such as purples, blues and greens. In both pearl, matte and glittery formulas, you’ll easily be able to create both wearable every day looks, along with fun and flirty colourful looks. Like all Too Faced shadows, each one is buttery soft, incredibly pigmented and blends into the skin like a dream. Each shade compliments one another and stays put the entire day without fading.

The top row of the Too Faced Then & Now Palette features popular shades of the 90’s, but in a modern-day formula. You don’t have to worry about having poor 90’s quality, just shades inspired by that decade. As for the bottom row, all 10 shades were inspired by the original shades, each new shade offers a 2018 twist to the classics. Of course, the highly metallic and glittery shades will come with a little fallout, so it’s best to create your eye look before your foundation. I love the concept of this palette so much, that I thought it would be fun to re-create some of my fave 90’s look, and then showcase a few current looks. The brand-new Too Faced Throwback Lipsticks feature 8 shades inspired by the original lipstick bullets of the 90’s, along with 2 20th anniversary shades. They’ve taken motivation from the initial shades and thought about how people would want to wear them in the current decade. Although these are a throwback lipstick, each shade comes with a rich and ultra-creamy texture, highlight pigmented formula and deliver a multi-reflective glitter finish. Each shade is truly opaque in a single swipe and thanks to its avocado oil formula, it stays comfortable on the skin all day. It seems like everything old is new again, and we couldn’t talk about the 90’s without revisiting the classic blue eyeshadow trend. The frosted blue eyes were seen on everyone, myself included. It wasn’t enough to wear the blue on our lids, we had to put the shade all the way up to the brow-bone. I was also a huge fan of Empire Records and had a major girl-crush on Liv Tyler. She had that classic cool 90’s vibe with a bit of edge. Although I didn’t have her iconic fuzzy baby blue crop top and matching blue plaid min-skirt, I did have an incredibly soft white crop sweater with a baby pink mini-skirt. I, of course, topped off the look with those classic grunge Docs. It instantly creates that innocent, yet sexual edge that Liv’s character Corey was going for.

Keeping with the 90’s theme, for our second look, I wanted to channel my inner Angela Chase from my So-Called Life. Claire Danes was a huge inspiration for me growing up, partly because of her style, and partly because she got to work alongside heartthrob Jordan Catalano, aka Jared Leto. From combat boots to oversized plaid shirts, the ’90s aesthetic will always be my fave era for fashion trend. I may have borrowed this red plaid shirt from the hubby, but the faux leather jacket and again, the Doc, really tie this outfit together.

Okay, let’s jump into 2018. We wanted to play off both the 90’s trend, but in a more modern and wearable way. For the first look, we took that blue eyeshadow trend of the 90’s but created a cut-crease which is uber popular right now. We also went with a fresh pink lip, for a more bright and airy effect, rather than the super grunge look. I rocked the same pink plaid skirt, but this time with a chunky, oversize sweater and this season’s hottest white booties.

For the second, we wanted to play on the plaid of the 90’s, but instead of flannel tied around the waist, we went with a full-on plaid dress. Not only will this be a super festive look for the holidays, it can be toned down with sandals for the summer. We kept that grunge feel, but more in a smoky effect. We darkened up the outer-V but had fun with colour in the crease.
